Take green beans after they are large enough to hull, hull a quart, cut off one quart of roasting ears put in stew pan with water enough to cook, and season with pepper, salt and butter.


Layer Cake, page 188

Two cups of sugar, 1 of butter, beaten to a cream, 1 cup of sweet milk, three cups of flour, 3 teaspoonfuls of baking powder and whites of five eggs, beaten to a stiff froth, and added the last thing; flavor with lemon. Put together with frosting.
