White Layer Cake, page 169

Take 4 teacups of flour and 2 teaspoonfuls of baking powder, mix well together; 2 teacups of granulated sugar 3/4 of a teacup of butter, 3/4 teacup of sweet milk; take the whites of seven eggs and beat to a stiff froth; flavor with the juice of 1 lemon. Bake in layers and put together with jelly.

To Can Apples, page 232

Peel the apples, cut them into nice sized pieces and put them in cold water, measure enough apples to fill one can, put them in the vessel and pour boiling water on them and cook until tender, not soft, and put in can and seal immediately.
