Baking Powder Biscuit, page 14

Mix 1 quart of flour with 1 large spoonful of lard, 1 teaspoonful of salt, 2 teaspoonfuls of baking powder; add enough sweet milk to mix soft.


Chocolate Cake, page 176

One and a half cups of sugar, half cup of butter, 2 and a half cups of flour, 1 cup sweet milk, 2 teaspoonfuls bak- {sic} powder, 1 teaspoonful vanilla, 3 eggs. Icing. One cup of sugar, and 1/4 cup of water boiled until it candies; pour over 1 teaspoonful of vanilla beaten with the whites of eggs; then add half cup of grated chocolate.

Two cups sugar, 1 cup butter, 1/2 cup sweet milk, 1 scant teaspoonful soda, 3 eggs, 1 teaspoonful of flavoring; flour enough to roll out.
